Introduction

The Library of IGRMS is located in a specially designed enclosure of the Veethi-sankul (Indoor Museum building). It is being developed as a Research and Reference Library, to cater the special research needs of scholars engaged in academic pursuits in different areas of social science research. It also caters to the needs of museum professionals, general readers and museum visitors.

Books Began at Delhi in 1977 by its founder head of the Museum, Dr. Sachin Roy, with an initial collection of approx. 300 Books , the Library of this Museum was shifted to Bhopal in 1979. Till June, 2010, the Library of IGRMS has a collection of about 35,000 Books in different Indian languages, including a good collection books in different tribal languages (Alternate Literature). The Books arranged in different Sections i.e. Anthropology, Social Science, Art & Architecture, Science, History & Geography, Linguistics, Religion &Philosophy, Reference Collection, Hindi, Sanskrit and Census Collection, etc.

Periodicals: Library has a very good collection of Approx. 8,000 in Indian and foreign journals (starting from 1977 onwards). Approximately 150 numbers of research oriented Journals, general magazines and News Papers. etc subscribed annually.

Multimedia Collection:

• Approx 400 CD-ROM in its collection.

• National Geographic DVDs Collection.

• Complete Slide Collection of South Asia Art and Culture of Michigan University USA (approx. 13400).

• E-Books Collection on various subjects.

Special Collection:

1. Creative and Alternative Literature: The library has special collection of literature in English, Hindi & regional languages.

4. Sanskrit Literature Collection: Sampurnanad Sanskrit University, Varanasi, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, New Delhi etc.

5. Indian Census Collection since 1931.

6. Collection of Granth Academies: Hindi Granth Academy (Rajasthan, Bihar Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh etc.).

7. Children’s Literature: National Book Trust, Children’s Book Trust, Publication Division, Govt. of India etc.

• Bibliographical Services: Library compiles bibliographies on different subjects on demand and on various occasions i.e. seminars, conferences etc.

• Reprographic Services: Available on a limited basis under the Indian copyright act to patrons who visit the library. Photocopies are provided against a charge of Re. 1/- per page.
