Ram Singh Urveti, an international Gond artist with many accolades to his name, belongs to Patangarh, Dindori in Madhya Pradesh. With his experience of 27 years justified in awards like South Central Zone Cultural Centre award for Tribal Art, 1998 and 200, Kalidas Award in 2001, Bologna Ragazzi Award in 2008 in Italy and more such achievements. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions and artist camps exhibiting his exemplary skills of Gond art. Often passed on as legacy in families, Gond artists carry on this heritage which leads to wide circulation and appreciation of Gond art nationally and internationally. Just like most tribal art forms, Gond art also started to be made on walls centuries back then gradually shifting to canvas and sheets. Tribal histories are not chronicled often which lead to prevalence of oral history, making great concept for paintings. Gond paintings often have nature as their main conception with stories and myths of origin of their people, their village and earth depicted through abstract shapes.
